Call for Short Story Submissions

The fourth anthology of Lisbon stories is now open for submissions.

Theme

  • Lisbon has to feature in the short story in some way, big or small.
  • Aside from the Lisbon connection, stories can cross the full range of genres and tropes from historic, contemporary, futuristic, romance, thrillers, urban fantasy, or poetical prose.

Length & Number of Entries

  • Short Stories from 500 to 10000 words.
  • You can send as many entries as you like.
  • The judge’s decision will be final.

Dates

  • Due date for submissions: Midnight, 31st August 2026
  • Final announcement of selected authors: 30th September 2026

Submission Guidelines/ Formatting

  • Send your entry/ entries to: hi@marinapacheco.me
  • With the subject line: LiLoLoLi 4
  • The document needs to be editable, i.e. .doc or .rtf
  • Include title (not in block capitals) and author name

If Your Story is Accepted 

  • Authors are responsible for the editing and proofreading of their entry.
  • Authors will need to provide a short biography – no more than 150 words – that can include links to other works and giveaways.
  • All authors will be asked to do as much promotion to their networks as possible pre publication and on the day of publication. Details on promotional activities they can undertake will be sent to all successful authors.

Copyright

All copyrights will remain with the individual authors. That means you can do whatever you like with the story, publish it as a stand alone, put it out as an audiobook, or add it to other anthologies. Just be aware that once it is published in the Lisbon Anthology it will count as a published work and you will no longer be able to be submitted to other competitions as new or original.

Costs

There are no cost involved in submission. The editor holds the right to publish the anthology in her own store as payment for her additional labour.

Royalties

  • The intention of the book is for promotion of the authors rather than making money, therefore the book will be sold at the lower end of the price band.
  • The book will be published through Draft2Digital and will be available on all major platforms in ePub and paperback format.
  • All authors will have to sign a contract stating that their work is their own and that they give permission for it to be published in the Lisbon anthology.
  • If you want to receive a share of the book’s income you will need to register with Draft2Digital. You can do that via this link: https://www.draft2digital.com
  • Income sharing will be based on your percentage of words in the book.
